Other Ways to Give
Through these alternative avenues, you can make a lasting impact by leaving a legacy that ensures our vital programs and services continue to support those in need beyond immediate assistance.
Gifts of Stock
Transfer appreciated stocks or bonds as a gift. Under the right circumstances, you can deduct their full fair market value and avoid incurring capital gains tax. Talk to your financial advisor about the amount and timing of your gift, and give them the following information for transferring the security.
Send electronic certificates to:
Charles Schwab and Company, Inc.
FBO Committee on Temporary Shelter
Account # 6163-8032
DTC # 0164, code 40
Tax ID # 03-0285606
Mail physical certificates to:
COTS
Attn: Rebekah Mott
PO Box 1616
Burlington, VT 05402
Use registered mail, and remember to send your signed stock power transfer form in a separate envelope.
Drop off physical certificates at:
95 North Avenue
Burlington, VT 05401
Important: Please notify (or have your broker notify) COTS when you make a gift of stock.
Otherwise, we will not know who sent the gift. The wire transfer does not contain your name, so we need to hear from you in order to send you a receipt for your taxes purposes. You can reach us at info@cotsonline.org or 802-864-7402 or by mail or in person.
We encourage you to talk to your financial advisor about the implications of a stock gift on your tax situation.
Employer Matching Gifts
Many employers will match their employees’ charitable contributions or volunteer hours.
- Ask your company if they have a matching gift program. Your HR representative will probably have the details.
- If your company uses an online portal for matching gifts, use that to submit your information. If your company uses a paper form, request a copy.
- Complete and sign the employee portion of the form, and send it and your gift to COTS.
- We’ll take care of the rest!
Mail the completed form to:
