COTS recently completed a weatherization project at the Main Street Family Shelter. The project’s goals: to make the shelter more comfortable and livable for its guests, and to lower COTS’ annual energy expenses. The partnership and generous support of Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity’s (CVOEO) Champlain Valley Weatherization, Commons Energy, and Consumer Construction made this project possible. We are very grateful! The project began with a thorough energy audit,…

Parents can appreciate the challenges of getting your children to make healthy eating choices – from costs, to creative cooking, to ultra-picky eaters. Sometimes, it’s a difficult to simply get a family meal together. Kathrine Mansfield is a VYDC AmeriCorps member, serving in COTS children’s programs this year. Getting out into the community and connecting with people who want to learn more about what we do is one of my favorite parts about being the Community Outreach Specialist at COTS. We have a robust Speaker’s Bureau, which means that anyone can reach out to schedule a guest speaker from COTS to talk to their school, business, or community organization. Members of our Bureau include COTS staff members, seasoned…

Last Friday, Sept. 28th, the Homeschoolers held their 13th Annual Bake Sale Benefit for COTS outside the Fletcher Free Library! Organized by Jessica Wagner for the 13th year running, the event was a great success! The Homeschoolers raised over $360 for COTS in just a few hours! And of course, seeing as we were at a Homeschooler fundraiser, we took the opportunity to teach the kids about Family Shelter and…

We are so thankful to the Seventh Generation staff volunteers who came in last Thursday to paint the dinning room and kitchen of our Main Street Family Shelter.  Eric Dutil, who works at the Family Shelter, directed the volunteers and had lots of great things to say about them. They did a wonderful job, they were great volunteers…and everyone’s happy, the guests are all happy and the staff are all…
