KeyBank Vermont City Marathon COTS TeamThis weekend Burlington is sure to be a happening place; Sunday, May 26th, the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon is in town! And seeing as this is its 25th year, the event is guaranteed to be a lot of fun.

This year also marks the fifth year since Miles for a Mission was created by RunVermont to help local nonprofits raise money through the marathon. One unique aspect of the Miles for a Mission program is that official charities are guaranteed slots for their runners and can avoid the lottery process.

This is the third year COTS has had runners supporting us with their efforts. Sunday four teams will run for COTS, including our first junior team, “Kids Running for COTS.” COTS staff will run too.

Liz Arthur, our VHCB AmeriCorps Family Specialist at the COTS Family Shelters, is proud to be running in support of COTS:

I am running for COTS because of all the great work they do for the community. Because of COTS, kids have a safe place to sleep and grow. The family shelters in particular enable families to get back on their feet and save money while doing so.

Come and cheer on Team COTS: Take a look at the area guides and spectator information available to find a great spot to watch the race from. The top recommendations for viewing: Church Street Marketplace, Battery Park, Waterfront Park, and Oakledge Park.

Marathon organizers also recommended that you agree upon a place to meet friends and family before you get to the event. There are lots of tips for successful navigation on race day available on the RunVermont website.

You can also show your support by backing a runner on Crowdrise. Our runners have already raised nearly $2,000 toward our goal of $5,000. We also have these amazing red race shirts for the big day. So keep your eyes out for the people in red who will “Run for Home!”
